Recently I did a super fun shoot with South Florida fashion and bridal photographer Kaleena Thompson. I had so much fun wearing a pretty dress and taking fun photos. You can check out her work here: www.kaleenacarolannphoto.com … She is really incredible and so much fun to work with!
I thought showcasing these photos would be a great time to share my journey with WEDDING PLANNING!
My fiancé and I got engaged in October after almost 8 years of dating! But in reality, like most girls, I’ve been planning my big day via pinterest for years! The biggest decision for us was whether to get married in Miami (where we live) or in Ohio where we are from and most of our family still is.
We looked at a few venus in South Florida which were all so beautiful. The only issue was that they generally maxed out at around 90 guests. Which brings me to my first tip:
Decide what is most important to you as a couple.
After a lot of talking and consulting with our parents, we decided that the most important factor in our big day was our guests. The two beautiful venues we saw weren’t an option for us because we really wanted EVERYONE who was important to us to be there.
We both come from pretty large families with LOTS of close friends, so we knew we needed a big party to celebrate our marriage with all of them! But, we also wanted that feeling of an intimate ceremony to exchange our vows. Sometimes it seems that the sanctity of the union can get lost in the glitz and glam of a big wedding. After all, the entire reason the whole thing is happening, is to join two lives before God. It is extremely important to us that we not lose the seriousness of the vow we are making on that day.
Soooooooo, finally after many months of sorting through the details and viewing venues, we realized we wanted the best of both worlds. We decided to get married in a very intimate ceremony with our parents and siblings by our sides. After, we are going to have a big, fat ( Greek 😉 ) party in my family’s backyard. This way we can have our intimate moment to make our (very serious) commitment to each other, and then join our favorite people for a big celebration! It also allows us to use some of our wedding budget for something more long-term like a down payment on a home, etc.
Of course, this is just our choice and it is different for every single couple! I am so happy with our decision and we haven’t looked back for a second! The best advice I can give for any newly engaged couple is to take your time, review all your options, and choose the best one for you as a couple.
